It's Pumpkin Season in South Austin! Here's Where You Can Get Your Pumpkin Fix

Fall is an exceptionally great time to live in South Austin. From the beauty of the changing leaves to the long-awaited dip in temperatures, fall is truly one of the most wonderful times of the year! Of course, we can't mention fall without talking about the joys and entertainment pumpkin season brings to South Austin and the surrounding areas. Check out some of our favorite fall activities and tastes near our South Austin apartments, and a few recommendations for longer day trips with family and friends.

Day Trips:

Barton Hill Farms

Located in Bastrop, the Fall Festival and Corn Maze is a great way to spend some family time. Every weekend, beginning September 24 through November 13, 2016, there is a five-acre corn maze to get lost in, a frontier fort, and a giant shipwrecked sandbox for children's entertainment. You’ll also find plenty of pumpkins, live music, farm animals, a barrel train and more! The Festival opens on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are only $14 person and free for children under 2 years old. Bastrop is located on Hwy. 71, east of South Austin and only about 40 minutes from our South Austin apartments.

October Fall Fun/Pumpkin Festival in Elgin

The farm is open daily beginning October 4. Admission is $7 for those who are two years and older and includes a hayride, animals, mini pumpkin decorating, pumpkin photo ops, mazes, playgrounds, picnic areas, and hay jumps. The actual Pumpkin Festival takes place on the second and third weekends in October. Hours for Saturday are from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for kids ages 2-12 and $9 for 13 and up. Kids will enjoy decorating their pumpkins and racing rubber ducks, while parents will be entertained with live music. Elgin is located at U.S. Hwy. 290 and Hwy. 95.

Evergreen Farms

Throughout the month of October, Evergreen Farms in Elgin will be having their Pumpkin Hunt. It’s a free event and is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 until 5 p.m. Included is a wagon ride around the farm, pumpkin recipes, pumpkin decorating (with the purchase of a pumpkin), a petting zoo, and bean bag toss. Other activities are available for $2.50 per ticket which includes: a pumpkin maze, pumpkin slide, train ride, and pumpkin golf. For $5, you’ll be able to ride an authentic pumper fire truck around the farm.

Pumpkin Patch in Kyle

Beginning on October 1st, the Cross Plants and Produce location will open their Pumpkin Patch every day (except Mondays) from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Kids will be able to visit animals, paint pumpkins, and have fun in the playground area. On Thursdays, you’ll be able to register your children for Storytime and Paint a Pumpkin for $7, beginning at 11 a.m. Kyle is located just south of Austin near I-35.
